My Craziest Astro-Experiment
My daughter, Katrina, was a high risk pregnancy. "What do you have in mind for your birth plan?", my level-headed doctor asked me. "Whatever is the safest for the baby", I said.
She studied me for a moment. "Then it would have to be a c-section". And so it was.
I was a little bummed out on the way home. Who wants to be cut open....! But the important thing was, it would be safer for my baby. And then, a thought popped into my head. Since it was going to be a planned c-section, I could pick her date and time of birth, and so I could design her natal chart (well, within reason) and... maybe... her future?
This astrologer mother simply couldn't pass the opportunity. I immediately perked up and started playing with different dates.
I found the date that had well-positioned Venus, promising good luck in love and/or money. I also realized that just four days made a difference between the planets aligning into a super-beneficial Kite Pattern in her natal chart, as opposed to just a couple of trines. Still nice, but not the same ooomph.
I also spent some extra time designing her chart to arrange the planets in the Houses, based on the time of birth I was hoping for. Well...it turned out that the operating room was only available in the morning, so there went my hope for my daughter to come into the world mid-day, and with the Sun in the 10th House!
The morning of her arrival, the c-section got delayed. I could no longer tell where her financial luck would come from, because House placements were going to be different from what I first thought. I'd have to wait until she was born.
Try not to laugh too hard... Looking up her natal chart was the first thing I did later that day, once I had a chance to hold her and she fell asleep. I looked for the House (area of life) Venus rules in her chart. That was her 8th House of…Inheritance…The ruler of her 2nd House of Money - Pluto - was in her 4th House. Family money and real estate. Considering we had her so late in life, my husband and I had a good laugh. Statistically, she would inherit before the age of 40. Well, that was anti-climactic!
If you or someone close to you ends up with a planned c-section, there is your opportunity! I'm a pragmatic though, so here are some things to keep in mind 😉:
1 - You'll likely have 1-2 weeks of dates to choose from.
You may not be able to bypass all of the aspects you don't like in your child's natal chart, because the slower moving planets will be making an aspect for a longer period of time. For example, it takes 20 days, from start to finish, to move out a Saturn transit to the Sun or the Moon (giving a 10 degree orb to the natal Sun).
I knew that no matter which day I chose, my daughter would be born with a Sun-Saturn square (incidentally, repeating the aspect I have in my own natal chart).
2 - Even if your doctor is very accommodating, their schedule and the availability of the operating room may not allow you to choose the TIME you want; but you could get the date you want.
3 - What you will be able to influence the most is the sign and the aspects of the Moon. It takes the Moon 2.5 days to change signs, so this gives you a lot of room to play with. I was hoping to avoid a Moon-Pluto square in my daughter's chart - I'm not sure my detached Aquarius Moon would be able to handle an emotionally volatile child!
4 - Remember, your emotional compatibility with your child will depend on the Moon aspects between your two charts, and also don't forget to factor in the child's father.
5 - If your Sun is conjunct a planet or an angle in your child's chart, you will bring out that quality in them. I picked the date that would put my daughter's Venus in conjunction to my Sun, with a 6-degree orb. Just three days later, and her Venus would be too far from my Sun. How nice, I thought. We will have good rapport and as a parent, I will enhance her sense of self-worth (true so far).
6 - And sometimes babies have a mind of their own! I did a consultation once for a good client of mine who also needed a c-section. We carefully selected the best date and time for her daughter's birth (hoping the hospital could accommodate). They did in fact have the date available.
But....the baby decided to come 6 weeks early!
My daughter is still young at the time I write this post, so I don't know yet how the rest of her natal chart will play out. No, it's not a perfect chart! For example, her Uranus is in the 7th House, and I worry how that will play out in her relationships as she gets older.
