The Astrology of 2022

As 2021 is coming to a close, warmest wishes for a happy (and safe) holiday season from my home to yours.  2022 still has some bumps in the road.  But, I can’t wait to share with you that it also brings some very healing energies, magical even! There is an energy shift happening, from what we’ve gone through in 2020 and 2021.

Looking Back

As I was re-reading my forecasts for 2020 and 2021, I was amazed to realize how much of what the stars foretold us came true.  In the summer of 2020, I wrote that the COVID vaccine would be approved in Dec. 2020. At that time, it sounded like the vaccine was still 12 months away. But yes indeed, it was December 2020!

2020-2021 were the years of “rioting for causes” and polarization we experienced as a society. COVID did ease off in many countries in May-July 2021. Cryptocurrencies gained prominence, but stayed volatile. There were dips in bitcoin price within 2-4 weeks of the Saturn-Uranus squares.

Dec. 2021 – when I felt there was going to be a spike of instability around the globe – brought increasing cases of Omicron, and uncertainty about this new variant and what it means for all of us.

Here is to Hope in 2022

So what about 2022? Some of the major astrological themes of the year are quite different from what we experienced in 2020/2021:

  • Healing and compassion (Jupiter in Pisces making some magical connections!)
  • Enterprising new starts (Jupiter's first visit of Aries - to be continued in 2023)
  • Some amazing energies for love and lovers! (conjunctions between Venus, Mars, and Pluto)
  • Integration of the past 2 years and readjustment (4 Mercury Retrogrades + Mars Retrograde + Venus Retrograde)
  • Increased focus on Mother Nature and (potentially) more of the extreme weather patterns
  • And...OK...another spike of challenging energies in October-December 2022.

As unlikely as it might seem right now, at the time I write this post and amidst all the worry about Omicron, 2022 offers some very beautiful energies. Well, at least the first half of the year does…February to April are absolutely lovely astrologically, bringing many magical energies and the energy of healing.

All the planets will be direct between Feb. 4 and April 29 2022: the Universe will be giving a big green light to new beginnings.  If you’re looking to get new projects off the ground, this would be a great window.

In May, Jupiter will move into Aires, infusing us with the enterprising energy of new starts.

Jupiter Moves Back into Pisces: Healing, Spirituality - and Inflation

OK, so let’s talk about the good news. We all need some after the years we’ve just had!

Jupiter, the planet of expansion and opportunities, will be moving back into Pisces on Dec. 28 2021. This is good news for all of us, because Jupiter in Pisces is very healing. When it briefly visited Pisces in May-July 2021, the world had a surge of hope that the pandemic will be behind us soon, as vaccination was underway in many countries across the globe. (Of course, then we had the delta variant…)  Still, the pandemic subsided in many countries at that time.

While we will still feel the energy of the Saturn-Uranus square (uncertainty and instability) in Jan. 2022, February to April offer some very lovely and healing energies. It's difficult to believe this now, as another COVID variant of concern - Omicron - has started spreading around the globe. But, somehow, things should start improving by mid-February.

(There may be another spike of COVID in the fall of 2022 though… or else something else might prompt the return of economic instability. Keep reading… )

One thing to keep in mind with Jupiter in Pisces is that it can bring or escalate inflation.  Sure enough, inflation started picking up in the summer, here in Canada anyway, and is starting to accelerate.  Inflation could peak in April 2022, when Jupiter connects with Neptune.

I wrote previously that Jupiter in Pisces can increase the price of oil and gas (and oil and gas stocks), and that's starting to play out as well.

Still, the huge upside of it all is that Jupiter in Pisces is very healing and non-judgmental, so hopefully the divisive rhetoric and behaviours we’ve seen in 2021 will start subsiding.  It’s a GREAT energy for spiritual, artistic, and charitable pursuits.  Just keep your feet on the ground, though! With Jupiter in Pisces, it's all too easy to want to ignore or escape reality.

In 2022, Jupiter will be in Pisces during these timeframes:

  • December 28 2021 – May 10 2022
  • October 28 – Dec. 20 2022

What’s more, Jupiter will be making positive connections with Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn, while travelling through Pisces. It’s well positioned in the skies, and I hope it will bring us a much needed sense of peace and relief.

So this is on a global level.

Jupiter’s move back into Pisces is also great news for Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer and Virgo – or anyone with the Ascendant in these signs. There may be new opportunities heading your way.

Having said that, we all have Pisces somewhere in our natal charts! Note the House (=area of life) Jupiter is moving through in your chart. That’s where the opportunities will come from for YOU in 2022.

For the Manifestor: Jupiter-Neptune Conjunction

Wow, this is pure magic! Jupiter and Neptune will do their once-in-12-years meet-up in the skies on April 12 2022, but we will feel this incredibly healing energy from mid-March to the end of April.  If you’re working on manifestation – or for the magically inclined – circle March and April on your calendar.   This is a very powerful manifestation energy, helping us bring dreams into reality.

Jupiter’s Visit of Aries

Just as important, Jupiter will spend a part of the year in Aries:

  • May 11 2022 -Oct. 27 2022
  • December 21 2022 – May 17 2023

Jupiter expands everything it touches, and here it will be waking up the enterprising and pioneering spirit.  More people might be starting their own business or becoming self-employed.  There could be more new construction, due to Aries’ association with construction and builders.

Jupiter in Aries is a great cycle to take charge of your life. Be bold. Don’t be afraid of new starts and new beginnings – says this energy.

Jupiter in Aries is great news for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Libra – or anyone with the Ascendant in these signs. There may be new opportunities heading your way.

Venus in the Spotlight: Love and Money

Venus will be retrograde Dec. 19 2021 – Jan. 29 2022. If you find yourself thinking of proposing or getting married around Christmas or New Year’s Eve, you might want to wait until February 2022.  Traditionally, Venus Retrograde is not the best time to start new relationships or get engaged or married.

What Venus Retrograde is superb for is reflecting on what we need in love, and if any adjustments to our current relationship are needed. Heal any issues in your relationship, or any blocks to love.

Some relationships might come under stress during Venus Retrograde, especially if you feel unloved or under-appreciated.

Venus Retrograde is also a great time to review and re-evaluate your finances. With Jupiter spending a part of 2022 in Pisces, there is a good chance for increased inflation. So this is our celestial nudge to get our finances into good shape.

This retrograde will bring Venus into an unusually long close alignment with Pluto, from Dec. 10 to Dec. 29. Karmic relationships can resurface in your life. And, for those who went through a particularly painful breakup, closure can finally be gained.

We will have one more Venus-Pluto conjunction, on March 3! It's a very special event because Mars will also join the party, making it a triple conjunction. It’s energy will already be felt on March 2, the day of a highly auspicious New Moon in Pisces. This would be a prime day to send your wishes for a deep, passionate soulmate connection – or financial abundance! – to the Universe.

But, there is more. Venus and Mars, the planet of passion, will also stay close to each other for an unusually long time, between Feb. 14 and March 17.  We will start feeling this red-hot energy on Valentine’s Day 😉 Ooh la la!

Remember how I said, wait until Jan. 30 if you’re planning to propose or get married? Well, there are some truly magical days for a wedding date between Jan. 30 and March 17, the best I’ve seen in quite some time.  Marriages (and businesses) have their own unique “birth chart” – that’s where electional astrology comes in.  You have the power to select the date that will help you achieve what you’re looking for in your marriage or your business.  (I offer “Select the Best Date” consultations for weddings and other important events).

Venus and Mars will make two conjunctions: on Feb. 16 (in Capricorn) and March 5 (in Aquarius).  These are great dates to set a wedding date if you’re looking for a passionate marriage.  (Feb. 16 is a better date for the passion to last for quite some time).

Eclipses Move into Taurus and Scorpio: From Rioting for a Cause to Respecting Mother Nature (and Your Relationship with Money)

Another major astrological happening of 2022 is the eclipse axis shifting from Gemini-Sagittarius to Taurus-Scorpio. This shift happens every 1.5-2 years.

In 2020-2021, the eclipses were primarily in Gemini/Sagittarius. It’s the axis that asks us to examine our beliefs, and so it can be deeply polarizing.

Sagittarius eclipses in particular are notorious for rebellious, loud behaviors that can spread like a wild fire and lead to riots. “Just give me a cause to riot for!”, says a Sagittarius eclipse.

Sure enough, the pro-vax/anti-vax debate has swept the globe. We had the Black Lives Matter riots, Indian Farmer protests, the anti-Asian racism movement – just to name a few. Diversity and inclusion has become a big and hugely politicized issue in the last couple of years – all of that happening while the eclipses were energizing Sagittarius and Gemini-related issues.

Eclipses tend to electrify. As the axis shifts into Taurus-Scorpio, there could be “shake-ups” happening in the financial sector and insurance (including social security, pension funds, and other group funds).

Agriculture and Mother Earth as also highlighted.  Taurus eclipses, in particular, can bring earthquakes and volcanic activity - especially considering that Uranus is also in Taurus, half-way through its trek through the Sign of the Bull.  Floods and intensifying extreme weather patterns are also a possibility. Not to say there WILL be big natural disasters in 2022 – but for those who are in an earthquake or flood prone zone, an emergency preparedness kit might be a good idea. Better safe than sorry!

The way we spend money can change. The value we place on money and other resources can also change. Financial and banking industries might change.

Last but not least, great breakthroughs can be made in deep emotional healing and regeneration. After all, Scorpio is the greatest healer of the Zodiac: it brings lasting transformation.

So that’s about the impact of the eclipses on us as the collective.  If they connect with your personal natal chart, you could be in for an eventful year.  Eclipses start a process of transformation and highlight where change is due. They can point to imbalances in our personal lives, and raise our consciousness of those.

This year’s eclipses will be impactful for you if you were born on:

  • April 21 -25, April 29 – May 9, May 14-18
  • October 24-28, Nov. 1-11, Nov. 16-20

One More Saturn-Uranus (Almost) Square: Instability Returns

The Saturn-Uranus square has been the key planetary energy of 2021, for us as the collective. It usually signals a transitional year, but one that is “bumpy”. There can be resource shortages and supply chain disruptions (yup, this one has played out in many countries around the globe through 2021).  There can be financial instability.  There also can be political and social unrest, and this has played out too.  It’s the energy of instability.

This energy is intensifying now yet again, about to peak on Dec. 24 2021 – just as omicron cases are surging around the globe.

It will return one more time:  in October 2022.  We can expect December 2021- January 2022 and September-November 2022 to bring some bumpy periods for the world or possibly the global economy.

As with every planetary energy, there is a silver lining:  Saturn and Uranus, butting heads in the skies, shake us out of the old paradigms and pave the ground for new beginnings.

This is especially relevant for Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio – something in your life can get rattled in 2021-2022, bringing an intense period of change that will feel uncomfortable at first.  If that’s you, please know that new opportunities are in store for you, once what no longer serves you is cleared from your life.

If you want to know more about the Saturn-Uranus square and what it could mean for the financial sector (among other things), you can find my earlier post here.

Mars Retrograde: “She Who Initiates War, Loses”  (or He!)

Mars will be retrograde Oct. 30 2022 – Jan. 12 2023, in Gemini.  It’s not the best time to initiate major new beginnings (for example, start a business).  And, don’t initiate “war” either, such as legal action.  Traditional astrology says, “he (or she) who initiates war, will lose”.  If thinking of serving your spouse divorce papers, wait until mid-January 2023 (and who knows, you might be reconciled by then!).

But, if youre prone to anger, its a great energy for anger management therapy. It’s also a great time to work on healthy levels of assertiveness.

Mercury Retrograde

There are four Mercury Retrograde in 2022, straddling Air and Earth signs:

  • Jan. 14 – Feb. 3 (10°Aquarius - 24°Capricorn)
  • May 10 – June 3 (4° Gemini -26° Taurus)
  • Sept. 9 – Oct. 2 (8 Libra° – 24° Virgo)
  • Dec. 29 – Jan 18 2023 (24° Capricorn – 8° Capricorn)

Mercury Retrograde can bring annoying technology glitches, delayed or cancelled travel plans and appointments, and frustrating miscommunication.  And….it also has a huge silver lining. It’s the best time of the year for all things “re”: re-do, re-plan, re-write (or edit), re-connect, repair, reflect.

Slow down when Mercury is Retrograde! Pace of life has been accelerating. Do you skim your email and occasionally miss important details? I know I do!  A big part of me thinks that many Mercury Retrograde related issues are due to our own rushing.

But, just to be on the safe side, if you’re planning a major trip, purchasing a vehicle or an expensive piece of electronics, or signing an important contract, do some extra due diligence. Save your receipts. Read the fine print in all legal contracts.

New Moon in Capricorn on January 2!

How perfect - this New Moon boosts the ability to set and achieve goals. And it falls on Jan. 2 10:33 a.m. Pacific Time this year. If you make New Year resolutions for the year ahead, this is the date to set them!

It's also a great New Moon for the career-minded. Capricorn rules older age, as well,  so if you’re worried about your financial stability in retirement, circle this one on your calendar.

You're not limited to these topics. Setting intentions for anything you want to attract into your life is fair game. Read my post here. Or, if you want to learn more about tapping into the New Moon energies to help you bring what you desire into your life, sign up for my New Moon workshop.
