Astrology Forecast for September 2022

I’ve recently started using lunations (the New and Full Moon) as predictive techniques. I usually write about tapping into their energy for self-development or manifestation, but they are also used as a predictive technique in mundane astrology: the branch of astrology used to forecast events and conditions in specific world locations, such as a country or a city.

Events may play out in different ways in different countries, depending on which House (area) the planetary energies fall into for that country. (Each country has its own natal chart, just like a person). But, when a New or Full Moon is well positioned, it’s good news for all of us!

The effects of a New Moon generally last for about 4 weeks, and the Full Moon for 2 weeks.

The last New Moon in Virgo, on Aug. 27, was a mixed blessing. It featured a tense and exact (very potent) square to Mars: we can expect some rash and potentially poorly thought out action in the next 4 weeks.  Mercury was in opposition to Neptune and Jupiter: don’t believe every announcement you hear in the next 4 weeks, because some of the plans made may be based on “wishful thinking”!

Mars, Mercury and Pluto were all forming a Grand Trine to each other though – a very beneficial energy flow – so there can also be negotiations or plans made behind the scenes that will bring some solid, durable results.

So that's some of the global "astro-weather".  Now let's look at the key energies that might affect us at the personal level:

Mercury Turns Retrograde

The big news this month is that Mercury turns retrograde on Sept. 9.  But, we will start feeling the effects as early as Sept. 2. Mercury will start gradually slowing down to a crawl, getting ready to reposition in the skies (well, as its orbit appears to us from Earth!)

In my experience, a lot of Mercury Retrograde-related mishaps happen several days before and after it changes direction, so be particularly careful Sept. 7-14 and then again Sept. 29-Oct. 6 (Mercury will go direct on Oct. 2).

This retrograde will straddle Libra and Virgo, so we can expect relationships to come into sharper focus. It’s actually a good time for conversations with people from the past, and coming to resolutions about old disagreements.  Repair any relationship issues, because you’re likely to find some practical solutions.

And, this retrograde has a number of surprising upsides! I was very pleased to see the planetary connections it’s making, because they are positive, and the energy will be available to us for a much longer time than normal. It’s especially favourable for negotiations, repairing relationship issues, and for writers.

Read all about it in my Mercury Retrograde post here.

As all months when Mercury is retrograde, the last 3 weeks of September are better for cleaning up loose ends and doing some inner work, rather than initiating new projects.

Having said that, this month brings some good dates for love or finances! Read the “Venus” section below.

Full Moon in Pisces: Sept. 10 2:59 a.m. PDT

This Full Moon brings lovely energies for artists, spiritual workers, and anyone who needs to heal from emotional setbacks. At 17 degrees Pisces, it’s conjunct the planet of healing, imagination and compassion: Neptune. It’s also supported by Uranus and Pluto, again emphasizing the theme of healing and emotional break-throughs.  Mercury turns retrograde just hours before this Full Moon, amplifying the reflective, introspective energy.

Directly illuminated by the Virgo Sun, this Moon asks us to balance discernment and unconditional love. To know when to let go of our desire to “control the process”, and to trust Divine Timing.

And don’t forget to set intentions to release procrastination, feeling like a victim, and any tendencies to self-deception.

Libra Season Begins:

On Sept. 23, the Sun enters Libra. Happy birthday to all Libras out there!

Libra Season is about investing into relationships, learning to successfully balance your own needs and the needs of others, getting rid of crippling indecision, and reviewing what “fair” means to you.

An interesting astrological tidbit (which I found to be true many times!) If your Venus is in Libra, you might have a hard time leaving a relationship unless you have someone else already waiting in the wings. Life is not black and white, that much I know…

New Moon in Libra: Sept. 25 2:55 p.m. PDT

This Moon, at 2 degrees Libra, is very well positioned! The Sun and the Moon are part of a Grand Trine – a very beneficial energy flow – that crosses Air and Earth signs. It’s close enough to Venus and Mercury, and it’s opposite the planet of luck and opportunities, Jupiter.

In other words, it’s a fantastic New Moon to ask for a happy, harmonious, fulfilling romantic relationship! It may be a new relationship, or a deeper connection in your current relationship.  If you need an improved ability to negotiate, or are about to enter a negotiation and would like to improve your chances of a successful outcome, this New Moon is for you as well.

Venus: Love, Beauty, Finances, and Personal Values

Venus spends its last days in showy Leo before she moves into practical Virgo on Sept. 4. She stays there until Sept. 29. Venus in Virgo is practical; she encourages us to show love through acts of practical service – how can you make the lives of your loved ones a little easier? She is also health-oriented, so it’s a great time to try natural skincare and cosmetics.

Venus makes no major aspects until mid-month, but she is well-positioned later in the month.

In electional astrology, Venus rules banks, money, income, parties and celebration, art and artists, music and musicians, jewelry and valuables, and of course love. All of these areas get a helpful boost between Sept. 14 and into October. Well, read the details below for some cautions though….

Key Dates for Love and Romance (Pacific to Eastern time):

Sept. 4: Venus enters Virgo.

Sept: 14-17: Venus squares Mars (exact – at its most potent – on Sept. 16). It’s a very passionate energy, so if off-the-charts chemistry is important to you in a relationship, go on your first date during these dates! Your new relationship will be imbued with this energy.

But, it’s also the energy that can lead to arguments in relationships and to rash financial decisions that don’t work out. Be on guard!

Sept. 17-20: Venus trines Uranus (exact – at its most potent – on Sept. 19). Delicious surprises are possible in love or finances. If you feel like your relationship is becoming a little boring, it’s a great few days to introduce some changes and break the routine.

Sept. 21-24: Venus opposite Neptune (exact – at its most potent – Sept. 23). This is a very romantic energy, but you might not see things clearly in love matters or finances.

Sept. 23-26: Venus trines Pluto (exact – at its most potent – on Sept. 24). Now this comes on the heels of the romantic Venus and Neptune connection, but it’s a very different energy. On the plus side, it can bring deeply passionate encounters. If you’re looking for a soulmate relationship, pay attention to new romantic prospects who come into your life on these dates On the downside, power struggles in relationships can come out today – but you will also be given a great opportunity to successfully navigate them and resolve them.

Financially, this is a favourable planetary energy.

Sept. 29: Venus enters Libra. She is strong in her own sign, boosting our ability to be charming, gracious, and thoughtful of others.  But, Venus in Libra can also be indecisive, and it’s too easy for her to sacrifice her own needs for the needs of her partner.

Sept. 29-Oct. 2: Venus opposite Jupiter (exact – at its strongest – on Oct. 1). Great for love OR money! It’s an excellent couple of days to go on a first date, because this optimistic, “we make each other feel like a million bucks” energy will be one of the main energies of your relationship.

The downside of this energy is that it can bring out the big spender in you! If you’re trying to stick to your budget, exercise caution on these dates.

If your birthday is Sept. 27 – Oct. 4, this optimistic, lucky energy will be locked in your Solar Return chart and available to you for 12 months ahead. Lucky you!

Career and Business:

You might be interested in my post Virgo Season: Career Edition. The tips there will be something to try while Virgo Season lasts – until Sept. 23!  “Libra Season: Career Edition” will be coming out later this month.

Key Dates (Pacific to Eastern time):

August 30 -Sept. 2: Mars sextiles Jupiter (exact – at its strongest – on Sept. 1)There can be lots of energy for new beginnings and pursuing opportunities, and optimism can be beneficial.

August 30 – Sept. 21:  Mercury makes an unusually long opposition to Jupiter. This is because it’s just about to turn retrograde and so it’s moving very slowly. The opposition will become exact (at its strongest) twice during Mercury Retrograde: on Sept. 2 and Sept. 18.  And then Mercury and Jupiter will oppose each other again on October 12.

It’s a fantastic feature of this Mercury Retrograde, and unusual, too!  First of all, if you enter into any negotiations on or before August 30, they might drag on, but they will be well positioned for a successful resolution in mid-October.

If negotiating anything, try to schedule your key negotiation moments around Sept. 2, Sept. 18, or Oct. 12. But, be careful with the Sept. 18 date: we may be prone to major excess (after all, Jupiter is about expansion). It may be difficult to moderate and stay balanced. Stay practical. The Sun trines Pluto on the same day, so power issues may come to the surface.

If your negotiations go sideways, don’t give up –as mentioned, there will be a chance for a successful resolution in mid-October.

Sept. 5-6: A Grand Trine in Earth Signs. A great couple of days to focus on practical matters or your career.

Sept. 7: a Grand Trine in Air Signs. An excellent day for networking.

Sept. 7-12:  Mercury is getting ready to reposition in the skies. This is a particularly sensitive timeframe, when Mercury-related mishaps can happen.  Read the fine print, and avoid any major decisions if you can.  New information can come to light when Mercury goes direct again, that can change your decision.

Sept. 14 5:30 p.m. to Sept. 15 5:59 a.m. PDT: an opportunity period! A very practical and productive time for ongoing projects. A lot can be accomplished.

Sept. 18: Mercury opposite Jupiter. If you must start a Mercury-related endeavour during Mercury Retrograde, this is a relatively decent day.  Just proofread your documents and check the fine print.

Sept. 22: The Sun conjunct Mercury at 0 degrees Libra. This is another day during this Mercury Retrograde when it’s actually good to START something related to communication, contracts, vehicles, electronics, or e-commerce.

Sept. 26: Mercury conjunct Venus at 26 degrees Virgo. The Sun is opposite Jupiter on the same day.  This is a beneficial energy, especially in relationships, including work relationships. It’s also a good day to resurrect an old topic (for example, a promotion or a raise) in a conversation with your boss at work.

Sept. 27: Mercury trine Pluto at 26 degrees Taurus/Capricorn. This is another very useful energy that will be in effect until Oct. 7.  It’s particularly helpful for cognitive or talk therapy, because deep breakthroughs are likely. It’s also a very good energy for coaching.

Coaches and psychologists, take note!

Sept. 25-28: Mars trine Saturn (exact – at its strongest – on Sept. 27). An excellent energy to work on projects that need stamina and focus.

Sept. 29-Oct. 6: Mercury is repositioning in the skies, turning direct on Oct. 2. This is a particularly sensitive timeframe, when Mercury-related mishaps can happen. If you must sign a legal document during this timeframe, be particularly diligent and read the fine print.

Health and Healing (dates for Pacific to Eastern Time):

Sept. 8 9:42 p.m. PDT to Sept. 10 5:29 p.m. PDT. The Moon in Pisces covers three phases: waxing, Full, and waning. An amazing time to strengthen your connection with the Divine. Meditate. Do yoga. Work with crystals.  Don’t forget to make some Moon water!!!

Sept. 16-19: the Sun trine Pluto (exact – at its most powerful – on Sept. 18/19) A great day to tap into your personal power.

Charge a garnet or a tiger eye today with the strong intention to increase your personal power (and that includes the ability to say “no” when needed).

Sept. 23 12:53 a.m. PDT to Sept. 25 5:49 a.m. PDT. A decently positioned waning Moon in Virgo. An excellent time to start on weight loss program or to cut something out of your diet, such as reducing your caffeine or sodium intake.

As the Moon is in the balsamic phase, don’t overschedule on these dates. Budget an extra hour of sleep or another restorative activity.  Replenish your energy!

Cautions This Month (dates for Pacific to Eastern Time):

If you know where 0 degrees Libra falls in your chart, that House (area of your life) is prime for starting something that can be a focus for the next 6-8 weeks, especially if it’s communication related.  For example, it falls into my 11th House of Friendships, so I may in fact be communicating with my friends more, when my daughter starts kindergarten in September!

Sept. 23: Mercury retrogrades into Virgo.

Sept. 23 12:53 a.m. PDT to Sept. 25 5:49 a.m. PDT. A decently positioned waning Moon in Virgo. An excellent time to start on weight loss program or to cut something out of your diet, such as reducing your caffeine or sodium intake.
